Moral of the Movie - Review

Prisoners (2013)

Thriller, Directed by Denis Villeneuve | Rating: Marriage Material | Published: Sept. 2, 2022, 9:18 a.m.

MORAL OF THE MOVIE

When do the ends justify the means? Prisoners answers this by showing us how we can ultimately lose ourselves in incredibly dark circumstances. How much “bad” can one do in the short term for the sake of doing something “good” in the long run? Is it worth it in the end? This film presents these questions through the belief-challenging circumstances of its characters and how they go about resolving the film’s main conflict. In my opinion, the main moral of the movie is that sometimes it is worth losing oneself for the ultimate good of others.

WHO I THINK WOULD MOST ENJOY THIS MOVIE

People looking for a very tense yet slow burn type of thriller that will challenge them and their beliefs as to what is ethical and what isn’t. Also, dads (mine loved it when I showed it to him).

ADDITIONAL NOTES/COMMENTARY

Prisoners is an incredible work of art. I can go hours into analyzing every little symbol and meaning behind scenes/moments in the film. The best part about the movie, though, is that it doesn’t give clear-cut answers to the questions and dilemmas it poses. It’s all very open to interpretation as to what it’s trying to convey in its message regarding ethics and morality. That’s why I think this is a great second movie to review so that all of you can share your own thoughts and interpretations of the film’s themes.
